Fireguard UL 2085 Fire-Protected Aboveground Tanks
Compliance Made Simple with Newberry
The Fireguard UL 2085 tank is a thermally insulated, double-wall, fire-protected aboveground storage tank built to STI/SPFA specification F941. A layer of monolithic insulation between the primary and secondary walls gives the tank a two-hour fire rating, so it keeps the fuel inside below a safe temperature even in a hydrocarbon pool fire. Every Fireguard is built by an STI-licensed fabricator under an independent, third-party quality-control program. With a century-long track record and some of the fastest lead times in the U.S., Newberry ships the size you need when you need it.
How a Fireguard tank works
Fireguard is a tank-within-a-tank. A steel primary tank holds the fuel; a steel secondary tank surrounds it; and the space between the two walls is filled with a lightweight monolithic insulation. That insulation is what earns the two-hour fire rating: in a fire it slows heat transfer to the primary tank, while the sealed interstitial space provides both secondary containment and a path for leak monitoring. The result is a single tank that satisfies fire protection, spill containment, and leak detection at once, without a separate dike or vault.
Fire protection and UL 2085
UL 2085 is the standard for protected aboveground tanks. To carry the listing, the complete tank assembly is fire-tested, hose-stream tested, and impact tested, and Fireguard is also projectile (ballistics) resistant when built to the required steel thickness. F941 tanks are tested and listed under UL 2085, ULC-S655, or SwRI 93-01, and are intended for installation under NFPA 30, NFPA 30A, NFPA 31, or the International Fire Code.

UL 2085 Applications
Fireguard tanks suit sites that need fire-rated fuel storage in tight or occupied areas: fleet fueling, bulk oil and lubricant storage, backup-generator supply, fuel farms, and commercial or industrial sites where local fire code requires a protected aboveground tank rather than a plain double-wall. The insulated, impact-resistant design is what lets these tanks sit closer to buildings and property lines than a standard UL 142 tank.
